My mom makes news
One thing I find curious about this blog is how people respond when I get personal.
That is, when I attach a point to the life of someone near and dear to me, you read it, and you respond.
So it is with our 8th most popular story of the year, “Grandma was right about your blood pressure.”
There were two news pegs to the story.
First was a study from Italy in which people got relief from hypertension through injections of Vitamin C.
Second was an Alabama study showing that if you don’t cut the salt intake your hypertension drugs won’t work.
The points were well known to me. They were hammered into me when I was growing up, in the 1960s, by my mom. So I found her picture, a glamour shot from the 1940s, and offered it here.
You responded. Hope you did more than read it.
Mom has lived with hypertension for decades, and says I’ve done my part in keeping it high. She has now reached the age of 85, a greater age than any of her ancestors ever reached.
I was privileged to be able to go out to California last Christmas, with my kids, and see her. Here she is enjoying our Christmas dinner, prepared by my sister.
I’m sorry we can’t make it out there this year, mom. This will have to do.
Love you.
