Spectrum monitor from DatascopeOne point often ignored about a weak currency is it puts your whole economy on sale. Even the innovation.

The only way you can get out of a debt crisis is by selling equity, and that often means equities. Hey, they’re cheap.

So expect this press release, from Mindray of Shenzhen, China, to be the first of many. They’ve bought the patient monitoring business of Datascope, based in Montvale, NJ, for $202 million.

This business is best known for Spectrum, an ER monitor which can handle EKG and multiple blood pressure checks without having to be re-set between patients. They’ve got a full line of monitors, all sweetly made, and now all Chinese.

You can expect to see a lot more of these, combining Chinese manufacturing with American intellectual property.

And you can expect a lot more deals like this over the next year, as people from around the world swoop in for bargains. America is half-off.
